Chromatic Sequencer

An interactive app, enabling users to compose a visual score and explore relationships between sound, colour and harmony.

Transcription of ‘Phyllis, Farewell’ (1604, Thomas Bateman)

Each row of 16 cells represents a voice or part (i.e SATB) read left to right, with each subsequent row voiced an octave apart.

The 12-tone musical scale is mapped to a 12-tone colour spectrum. By selecting squares repeatedly users can cycle through colour-tones to construct their sequence.
